Research Interests

 

I am interested in the evolution of insects, currently in particular in the remoulding of the trade-off of fecundity / longevity in social insects. Working in the So-Long project (FOR2281, German Science Foundation) we study this unique phenomenon including poly- and holometabolan insects to understand the molecular underpinning of trade-offs and life histories. Beyond this I am interested in phylogenetics and -genomics of hexapods in general.

My focus is research based on molecular sequence data, genome and transcriptome evolution, differential gene expression, functional genomics, and I am interested especially in pitfalls, challenges and improvement of methodological approaches dealing with transcriptome and genome sequence data and quality assessment along with NGS data.
